South Island, NZ processor Synlait Milk have raised their milk price forecast for a second time for the 2023-24 season by 0.25c to NZ$7.50/kg of milksolids. Synlait said they revised the base price because although demand remains subdued, global milk production has tightened, increasing dairy commodity prices.
The NZ government has agreed to support Fonterra’s slow-moving drive to cut coal use at six of their manufacturing sites. Fonterra are investing NZ$790m (US$492m) in their decarbonisation programme; the government will co-fund $90m. Fonterra expect to halve their coal use by 2030, benefitting both the environment and economy.
