Troubled Kenya-based Brookside Dairy, controlled by former Kenya president Uhuru Kenyatta, announced that they will be laying off 50% of staff in Uganda. Brookside said the William Rutu government in Kenya has refused them licences to export from Uganda to Kenya. Brookside say efforts to increase sales in Uganda and source alternative markets have not mitigated the impact. Kenyan sources say Brookside’s dominance is diminishing fast.
